Lancing Beach Green Parkrun Takeover
Lancing Eagles Running Club is proud to be celebrating its 40th Anniversary in 2026
To mark this significant milestone, there are already many exciting plans in the pipeline, with a variety of events and activities planned throughout the year to celebrate the club’s history, achievements and community spirit.
We kicked off the anniversary year in style by taking over the Lancing Beach Green parkrun on Saturday 3rd January 2026. The Eagles stepped up to fill every single volunteer role on the roster, with several members also taking part as runners. This was event number 281 and the very first parkrun of 2026 — and it certainly lived up to its reputation as a brisk winter morning!
Glorious winter sunshine greeted the 198 finishers, all superbly supported by a fantastic team of 34 Eagles volunteers. Their enthusiasm, encouragement and constant smiles more than compensated for the bitter sub-zero temperatures, helping to create a wonderfully positive atmosphere throughout the event.
Despite the undeniable chill in the air, there was no shortage of warmth at the start line. Everyone achieved their own success — whether walking, running, bringing a dog along, or volunteering — and together we made the event memorable and enjoyable for all involved.
A total of 21 runners achieved new personal bests, 36 of the 198 participants completed Lancing Beach Green parkrun for the first time, and 11 of those took part in their very first parkrun. We were also delighted to welcome visitors from near and far, including Worthing and as far afield as New Zealand.
It was a perfect opportunity to share our 40-year celebration with the local running community and to showcase our much-loved club, highlighting the friendly, inclusive and fun spirit that has been at the heart of Lancing Eagles Running Club for four decades.
A big thank you to Max Spanner for giving up his time to photograph us in action!
